Financing Fertility: What to Expect and How to Navigate the Cost

May 8, 2025

When it comes to fertility treatment, one of the first and most common questions is: “How much does it cost?” It’s a valid concern. Fertility care is both a medical journey and a financial investment, and the uncertainty around costs can add an extra layer of stress to an already emotional process. It does not need to be this way though.

At Blue Sky Fertility, the team understands these concerns. Billing Director Ashleigh Anderson, who has been with the clinic since opening in 2016, regularly speaks with individuals and couples navigating the complexities of fertility financing. Her insights provide valuable guidance for anyone beginning this journey.

Financing Options at Blue Sky Fertility

While Blue Sky Fertility does not offer internal payment plans, we do work with three trusted third-party financing institutions. These financing options are shared during the treatment planning process, once a specific care path has been recommended. In 2024, about 15–20% of families at Blue Sky Fertility chose to use external financing options to support their care.

Why You Won’t Find Pricing Online

One of the most frequent frustrations is the lack of upfront pricing. While this is completely understandable, there’s a reason for it: fertility care is not one-size-fits-all. Pricing varies widely depending on a patient’s diagnosis, insurance coverage, and individualized treatment plan. Without consultation and basic diagnostic testing, it’s not possible to provide an accurate cost estimate. In the interest of transparency, Blue Sky Fertility avoids offering general price ranges that could be misleading.

Preparing Financially for Your Fertility Journey

The best advice for financially planning your fertility care is simple: call your insurance provider before beginning treatment. Understanding your coverage ahead of time can help prevent unexpected expenses and reduce frustration later. We highly recommend asking detailed questions during your company’s open enrollment period to ensure your policy aligns with your family-building goals.

In addition to the main costs of treatment, there are several often-overlooked expenses to keep in mind:

  • Medications
  • Travel costs
  • Time off work
  • Annual Embryo storage

All of these can contribute to the overall cost, and being aware of them from the start helps with planning and peace of mind.

Insurance Coverage and Payment Tools

The only reliable way to verify fertility coverage is to contact your insurance company directly. It’s important to ask about both diagnostic testing and treatment coverage, as they are often categorized differently under many plans.

Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) cards can also be used to pay for many fertility-related expenses.
